Film Movement grabs domestic 'Historias' rights

Film Movement has acquired U.S. rights to Portuguese-language drama ''Historias,'' the debut feature from Brazilian filmmaker Julia Murat. The pic premiered at the Venice Film Festival and has been shown at the Toronto International Film Festival. Film Movement said Monday that ''Historias'' will be launched theatrically in New York in the second quarter with a limited national roll-out to follow, as well as a day-and-date Video on Demand premiere. Story is centered on an older woman, clinging to the image of her dead husband and living in her memories , who is then awakened by the arrival of a young photographer who in a village where time seems to have stopped. The acquisition was negotiated by Film Movement's President Adley Gartenstein and VP of Acquisitions and Distribution Rebeca Conget, and Pierre Menahem and Juliette Lepoutre of MPM Film, the French co-producer.
